Revel in the Joy of Live Music Composed Entirely by Women & Gender-Marginalized Composers
3rd Annual WoCo Fest to Perform at Strathmore’s New Trawick Terrace
WASHINGTON — Boulanger Initiative will hold its third annual festival “WoCo Fest 2021: Revelry - Co-Presented by Strathmore” June 3 - 6, 2021. The festival events will take place at Strathmore in Bethesda, Md., the Washington National Cathedral, as well as streamed live online.
Boulanger Initiative takes its name from two paragons of the 20th-century classical music world — sisters Nadia and Lili Boulanger, both of whom broke barriers on their way to great musical achievements. WoCo Fest honors the Boulanger legacy with its high-energy, multi-venue, days-long program.
“Boulanger Initiative provides an inclusive and enriching experience when presenting WoCo Fest,” says Jessica Meyer, Grammy-nominated violist and composer. “Audiences can experience showcases of talented women composers via fabulous performances by prominent soloists and ensembles. This has quickly become a mainstay in our yearly calendar.”
Events on June 3, presented by Fifth House Ensemble, are entirely online and will include two workshops and a performance. Performers on June 4 and 5 at Strathmore’s new Trawick Terrace Patio Stage will include Overlook Quartet, big dog little dog, Brittany J. Green, Amanda Gookin, Allison Loggins-Hull, ChamberQUEER, and JACK Quartet, as well as a composer panel discussion with Jessie Montgomery, Allison-Loggins Hull, Julie Zhu, inti figgis-vizueta, and Brittany J. Green. The festival will conclude with a carillon performance on June 6 by Julie Zhu at the Washington National Cathedral.
Boulanger Initiative is offering free livestream access to all educational institution partners (students and faculty) as part of their initiative to broaden traditional musical educational instruction.
