The Unanswered Question

This performance by the Randolph-Macon Ensemble, a flexible instrumentation chamber orchestra and the premier instrumental ensemble of the Randolph-Macon College Music Program, features the premiere of a transcription of Élisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre's Overture to her 1694 opera, "Céphale et Procris" by R-M Ensemble conductor Brian Coffill. Also appearing on the program are Kathryn Salfelder's 2019 work for winds, "Reminiscence," Charles Ives' "The Unanswered Question," Gordon Jacob's "Old Wine in New Bottles," transcriptions of Johannes Brahms' "Es ist ein Ros' entsprungen," Ludwig van Beethoven's "Polonaise," WoO 21, and George Frideric Handel's "Water Music" Suite No. 2."
